Camjam 2002
Newsletter No 1

1st January 2002

Well Camjam Year has now dawned and all our Sub-Committees will now be working flat out to bring you an exciting camp for 2002.

Prior to the Christmas/New Year holidays we had received enquiries from over 30 countries and we hope that many of these will find our programme suitable for their Summer Camp and join us at the East of  England Showground in Peterborough Cambridgeshire.

As with previous events we are hoping for a camp of some 2000 participant young people with supporting leaders, and we remind all Groups planning to come to Camjam that we would like to have deposits with us by mid February so that we know who is coming as we enter the final six month run in to the event.

If you are going to have any problems in meeting this deadline please make contact with us so we can negotiate a solution and ensure that space is available for your contingent.

The Theme
The Sub Camp Leaders team have now finalised their themes for the Sub-Camps which will be around the saga of King Arthur

The three Sub Camps will be:

Tintagel (Blue) led by Colin Daniels, District Commissioner of Cromwell District.

Cadbury (Red) led by Simon Roberts, now a Scouter in the Birmingham area but formally with Cambridge District.

Glastonbury (Green) led by Martin Hall, District Commissioner of Medehamstede District, Peterborough

The staff sub-camp will be Excalibur (Yellow) led by Chris Halliday, District Commissioner of March & District District.

The Day Trips

You will be offered a choice from Snibston Industrial Museum, Duxford Air Museum, The National Space Centre (Leicester), or the London Museum Area. We do not insist that all your party goes to one place only that you arrange suitable leadership cover for your members.

Site Services

For those of you who have never visited the East of England Showground, you will be pleased to know that the site is full serviced with permanent toilet/show blocks and has a complete latticework of tarmac roads across the site making for very good access for your equipment vehicles close to your site.

Shopping

We do not run a supermarket on site as we have what is said to be the largest Tesco Extra store in Europe about 2 miles from the site and provide a minibus service for those without their own transport.

We intend to have the following for sale in our own shop:- Embroidered & printed garments, badges, souvenirs.

There following are planned to be on site:- a Café, Tuck Shop & Leaders Club, Outdoors (Scout Shops Ltd), Cambridge Scout Shop, Manor Enterprises(Badges), Scout & Guide Stamp Club, Scoutaids, Redwood Photography.
